Inclusion Research Institute

The primary purpose of the Inclusion Research Institute (IRI) is to develop, research, and disseminate educational, therapeutic, and technological innovations that enable persons of all ages, including individuals with disabilities or other disadvantages to be independent, productive and included in schools, communities, and places of employment. They also issue a Monday Morning e-mail report of the latest information regarding inclusion, legislative activities and more.

• Project A.B.L.E.

Project A.B.L.E. (Acceptance By Learning Experience) is a hands-on disability awareness training that encourages understanding and respect by asking typical individuals to participate in disability simulations. Adaptable for all age groups, the program covers four basic areas -Communication, Learning Disabilities, Mobility, and Fine Motor. Participants are encouraged have fun, ask questions, and consider the Abilities of those with disabilities. For more information contact a Project Representative at: able_project@yahoo.com

• Community Involvement Network

The Community Involvement Network is a project that seeks to involve diverse individuals in their communities. Through involvement in numerous community-based projects and programs, the Network Facilitator seeks to reduce the fear-factor which is often the greatest barrier to community involvement by individuals with disAbilities or of diverse ethnicity. The Facilitator offers awareness trainings and also serves as an inclusion mediator when necessary. Though primarily centered in the Hazleton community (Luzerne County), the Community Involvement Network is dedicated to encouraging Community for ALL in Pennsylvania. The project is funded through the Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley by a grant from the PA Developmental Disabilities Council.
